Our Children Do Their School Time At Home. Why Don't We?

Covid-19 disease has spread to hundreds of countries around the world, delivering thousands of death tolls among its victims, leaving hundreds of thousands patients to fight for their lives. Healthy people are also forces to do physical distancing in order to cut down and initiate blocking force for the disease to stop. The situation also forces students to continue learning from home and workers to work from home as well.

One good thing is, it let us spend our time at home with our beloved family members. In order to be thankful we should be grateful to Allah Azza wa Jalla, as there is still wisdom in this very difficult situation. For everyone.

Time, An Entity That Could Never Be Rewritten
We have seen our children now, are forced to not going to school but to learn their school lessons from home. They've been receiving tasks, homework and even get materials, online. A new experience for some, but also another opportunity to expand their knowledge independently.

As parents, we share some similar situation yet it's not the same. As workers, many of us are obliged to do our work from home. Communication, sharing data and even meetings have to be done through online and remote tasking. This brings benefits as well when we are aware that we no longer do traveling, commuting and wasting time in the heavy traffic to go to the office and meeting points. We have those priceless time in our hands but it depends on us on how we would benefit from it. Just like our children, we could also expand our skills and knowledge, as many online courses are available or we just do the learning or shaping our skills by ourselves.

I personally do many things with most of my available time. One of it is shaping my skills in using Rhinoceros, as well as learning more about CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).

Computational Fluid Dynamics Software
There are many robust CFD software of choice in the market. Mostly they cost you a fortune as commercial products like Fluent, SOLIDWORKS Flow, AcuSolve and some others. They are also coming as stand alone or even a part of software package that may come also with perpetual or subscription license model.

On the other hand, OpenFOAM is free as an Open Source stand alone CFD package. Yes it's free and being supported by many communities. There's no catch. It is a powerful CFD software. But it will take time for a new user to learn it to make it works and get familiar with. Other free software offers limited yet giving major basic functionalities for you to use, like SimFlow free version, SimScale Community Plan, etc.

Rhinoceros users have been spoiled with free CFD solution from LadyBug, called Butterfly. Butterfly works in conjunction with both Grasshopper and OpenFOAM.


Conclusion
Time is precious, and when passed by, it couldn't be rewritten again. We all could learn from our childhood and children so we could make use of it wisely. It would be beneficial for us all, and could also teach our children to learn by examples.
